WELCOME TO YARLOOP PRIMARY SCHOOL
Yarloop Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community, dedicated to nurturing young minds and fostering a passion for knowledge. Our commitment to academic excellence and holistic development sets the foundation for a bright future for our students.
Our School's History
The first government-organised school in Yarloop opened in February 1907, with Mr AW Heneleers as the first teacher. The school was built by Millars Jarrah and Karri Company on land which they owned. They later contributed a second (1910) and third (1931) classroom and teachers quarters (1908). The buildings were occupied until 1966.
The present school was built on land adjacent to the old school for $40,426. It was completed in February 1967, and officially opened in November of that year. The school size has increased since then with the addition of demountable classroom this is used as full-time Pre-Primary centre.
A joint Shire/School library building was built in 1988. To date it still houses the Shire Library. This project was funded from the Shire of Harvey together with the Yarloop P&C Association.
In 1989 renovations were made to the original cloak room to convert it into an award winning canteen, which is run voluntarily by parents. Our canteen bosts a healthy menu, with affordable prices. Funds raised from the canteen are donated to the P&C Association. In 1992 the multi-purpose room was completed and officialy opened by Mr John Bradshaw, MLA for Wellington. The construction of this buidling was undertaken by the P&C Association and funded fully by them also. It is a major building in the school, now used as the Art Centre for visual arts and music.
In 2005, the new Administration block was installed next to the multi-purpose room. The Administration block houses the Principal's office, the staff room, an interview room and the main Reception for the school. The area that was the Administraiotn/Staffroom is now utilised as the Taching Resource Room, storing all teacher resources. The two rooms next to this are th Sensory Room, opened in 2021, and the Active room, opened in 2023. This was funded with the support of ALCOA and was drive by Mrs Kandy Camisa, ECC teacher.
2007 saw the school completely repainted, inside and out as per of the Federal Fixing Our Schools initiative, as well as the replacement of the blackboards and the whiteboards in the classrooms. 2007 also saw the new Adventure Playground built. The construction was funded through a Health Kids Program grant and an ALCOA - Australia Wagerup donation. Additional funding to complete the project was supplied by the school. This playground facility is a huge success and is used by all year groups for Kindergarten to Year 6.
Yarloop PS turned 100 years old in 2007 and the colmination of the celebrations was a fete, organied by the P&C Association, where the community and past & present students and staff came to celebrate.
2008 saw further improvement at Yarloop PS, with the construction of an Undercover Area over the basketball court, funded through the Department of Eeducation and Training's Investing in Our Schools initiative.
The school also had a purpose built library completed in 2011 under the Building the Education Revolution (BER) as well as the addition of a staff room next to the school administration building.
A fire swept through Yarloop in 2016, and while the school escpaed serious damage, the Town of Yarloop lost 160 house and two lives. The town was closed whil the clean up was under way, and studens travelled to Harvey Primary School, where an onsite school was set up for the Yarloop students. The school reopened in 2017 at the commencement of the school year.
